CVE-2004-0461: Isc Dhcpd: Buffer overflow

CVE-2004-0461 has a CVSS v2 base score of 10.0 (the maximum on that scale) and affects Isc Dhcpd, along with 10 other products in NVD’s configuration data. Per its scoring, it can be exploited over the network, without authentication. The scored impact on confidentiality, integrity and availability is the highest available.

Vulnerability description

The DHCP daemon (DHCPD) for ISC DHCP 3.0.1rc12 and 3.0.1rc13, when compiled in environments that do not provide the vsnprintf function, uses C include files that define vsnprintf to use the less safe vsprintf function, which can lead to buffer overflow vulnerabilities that enable a denial of service (server crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code.
